I'm Back!
And I'm now a Licensed Engineer. :D
anyway, here are some news:
...Cast 03 will be out in stores later this week. Congratulations to Elbert, Jaime, Ronin Core and the rest of the Nautilus Crew!
...There's a new comic store in town. It's called Annika's, a vintage, all-Filipino comic store owned by collector and publisher Dennis Villegas. I haven't been to the store yet but I heard they sell all-Filipino works and vintage stuff from the masters and golden years of Filipino Comics. The store is located at Gallery #16, Marikina Shoe Expo Behind Rustan's Cubao and beside Ali Mall in Cubao, Quezon City. Check Gerry's blog for all the details.
...Jason Banico of Dynatica Comics and creator of Baylans has put up his recent collaborations online with some of our emerging great artists such as Marco Dimaano, Carlo Vergara, Honoel Ibardaloza and more! Check it out here.
...There will be an Anime/Manga and Comics event in UP Bahay ng Alumni this December 4 brought to us by UP Anime and Manga Enthusiasts! Be sure to drop by and check out the cosplay, music and merchandise! Indie comics will be sold too so be there. oh and to any UP AME members out there, send me an official press release and I'll post it here. :)
...Some bad news. Siglo: Passion has been delayed from an end-of-year release to an early-next year release. But fear not! The delay was for additional clean-up and colorings, more features and all so its all good!
yun lang. next time people!

new acquisitions
Lemme post in Tagalog okay?
Astig.

Filipino Comics - Mahal na Mahal Ko 'Toh!
rundown
lemme just give you a rundown of the newly added links:
3 Comic Groups: Atomic Monkey / M3 Studios, creatives behind the bi-monthly anthology Ignition Comix published by Inquirer Publications Inc.; Indie creatives Istrong Repablik featuring non-manga style artwork and story telling; and Iloilo based Indie group Raccon Box Comics.
Comic Org: Comic Collective - a student organization based in Ateneo De Manila University dedicated to the uplifting of the status of comics, sequential art and graphic novels within the academic community. A place for artists, writers and comic enthusiasts to mingle and share ideas about everything in the world of comics. Publishes Grafic, a comic magazine for people who don't read comics.
Behind the Faculty Doors: Yoda Comics - brain-child of Adelino Ramos, member of the Bulacan State University, College of Art and Sciences, Social Sciences Faculty. Home to whimsical and witty comic strips about the happenings behind the Social Sciences Faculty room doors... the teachers' lounge area.
Spankin' New Blogs: Abono's journal about anything and everything that tickles their fancy and Jerald Dorado's backward thinking blog. Jerald Dorado is the creative behind Pinoy Passenger, a cartoon serial set to be published within the pages of Manila Bulletin. He was also one of the artists within Pol Medina's Polgas 1&2.
Spankin' New DAs: Graphic Designer Lionel Yumul of Abono; Kieren, one of Leaf Indie's artists, and lastly, Carpool creative and Myths and Legends' Syeri.
on a personal note:
this'll be the second to the last update before Filipino Comics goes into a month long hiatus...
I will be devoting my spare time to studying for the Chemical Engineering Licensure Examinations so I'll say goodbye to this blog for a while.
But rest assured, I will be back.
Really exciting things are cooking up before the year's end: Lastikman, Siglo: Passion, The 3rd C3Con.... and I'll be damned if I don't get to be the bearear of news and updates.
So for now, wish me luck as I wish you all the luck in your endeavors...
and keep supporting the Philippine Comics Industry!

huge links update
yep. you read that right.
anyway, here is a rundown of the newly added links:
over to your left,
- we now have 2 more cartoonists added to our growing list of sites: Manny Francisco of the Daily Tribune who is also part of the humor mag Mwahaha! from Mango Comics and also, I have added the link to the legendary Larry Alcala's website / online gallery, A Slice of Life.
- also among the newly added links are two sites created specifically with the Filipino comic book reader in mind. Komix 101 is a great online resource created by Alamat Comics head honcho Budjette Tan which compiles published and online articles regarding the Filipino comic book industry. On the other hand, The Philippine Comics Art Museum is the brainchild of Gerry Alanguilan, one of the prime movers of our comics industry today; it is the online repository of original Philippine comics-related artworks and memorabilia by the masters who started the industry like Tony Velazquez, Nestor Redondo, Mars Ravelo and many more.
- I've also added the link to Siklab Magazine, the recently launched magazine that features the works of some of our best cartoonists and comic creators as well as insightful articles on the Filipino Comic Industry. you can grab a copy of Siklab Magazine at National Bookstore, Powerbooks, Mag:Net, Filbar's, Comic Quest, and any major bookstores / magazine stands nationwide!
and over to your right,
- At the DA section, i've just added two more Culture Crash Comics staffers: Deanne Alonsagay and Jio Beltran (Solstice Butterfly). I've also added the DA account of Cheese who pencils CCCom staffer Jon Zamar's indie, Minsan Ako'y Nanaginip.
- last but not the least, I've added all the available DA accounts of the staff of Atomic Monkey Productions, the studio responsible for the bi-monthly anthology Ignition Comix: Colorist Dan Gadia, writers and artists Marvin Del Mundo (Damage Faction), Michael Seludo (Raeth), Mark Santillan (Hango), and artist David Serador (Youth Gone Wild). Ignition Comix is published by Inquirer Publications and is currently available at your favorite comicbook stores!

hot off the press
hey all!
thanks to mythman over there at the chatterbox, i got some great news from the Arnold Arre's website:
- As you all should know by now, Arnold Arre would be doing the pencils and inks of Lastikman, Mango Comics' latest comic venture. Gerry Alanguilan would be writing the revamped story and Edgar Tadeo would be doing the colors. This would be one title to watch out for (I smell National Book Award material)
- The Bigger News: Adarna House will be releasing the special collected edition of Arnold Arre's Award-Winning Mythology Class, complete with new scenes and sequences as well as exclusive pin-ups! No release date yet. Definitely something I can't help but get excited for!
In other news:
- I just got news from Culture Crash Comics managing editor Frances that Issue 15 is finally going to print! if all goes well, the issue would be at the stores in by next week or by the end of the month at the latest. reasons for the delay: highly sensitive information... I don't know it either. I just hope all is well within that office... must visit them one time.
oh, and here is something new...
Mini-Review: Cast 01
I finally got myself a copy of Nautilus Comics' Cast 01 after three consecutive days of frequenting Comic Quest SM North.
And I can definitely say that this is the real deal. This is the final product that we have all been given a taste of with Cast: Pre-Production. And it is a product worth buying or more appropriately, a production worth watching. Almost all the inconsistencies with the Pre-Prod issue has been worked out in this one; the art by Ronin Core looks great especially the detailed panels (like those family dinner scenes) and the carefully crafted script (written by Jaime Bautista) is laden with witty lines that mimic real highschool situations quite well.
All in all, Cast 01 is a great first issue. A professionally made production. A must buy.

CAST Issue One Release
got this straight from Elbert at the Nautilus Yahoogroup.
Hello everyone!
It's taken longer than expected, but the first issue of Nautilus Comics' monthly series CAST is finally coming out! To those who've waited and asked for it, we're sorry it took this long; we actually had the full issue out for a while now, but the reason why it's not coming out until now is because we were trying to fix some logistical and pricing concerns...
Which brings me to the good news: the first issue is finally coming out mid-week, first at comics stores including Comic Quest and Central Comic Headquarters, then much later at various magazine shops. It's 48 full-colored pages at 70 pesos, much thicker and more affordable than our special prequel issue. So if you've yet to jump onboard, now would be the best time to do it!
Written by Jamie Bautista and illustrated by Ronin Core Art Group, Cast is the ensemble teen series about a group of high schoolers trying to put together a school play. Along the way, they encounter life's ups and downs, and it will everything they've got to keep the play together, or risk letting their personal problems tear everything they've worked for down. Thanks for all the support, and hope you check Cast out this week!

-and lastly, for those interested in Kenkoy Memorabilia, there would be a Kenkoy Exhibit at the Rizal Library of the Ateneo de Manila University from August 9 to 20. don't forget to drop by everyone! check Gerry's site for the full details.

news news news
wassup?!?
actually, i've written something a good 45 minutes ago and i forgot to back-up it before posting... then Blogger failed on me. *sigh* the pains of blogging on a dial-up...
anyway, there seems to be much going on in the local comic book scene...
- my current favorite writer, Kestrel head honcho Dean Alfar, has struck gold once more as he bagged 2 Don Palanca Awards very recently. and according to his lovely and equally talented wife, Nikki, this year's double-win jacks up the number of Palanca awards Sir Dean won so far to seven... wow. Congratulations Sir Dean!
- Angel Ace master Marco Dimaano has put up a preview straight from the pages of his next major project, K.I.A, to be hopefully released in this year's C3Con. the whole glorious page was drawn by CCCom's Pasig comic-creator extraordinare Taga-Ilog, and as you might have guessed it, K.I.A. will be a comic anthology of sorts featuring stories and artworks from some of the local industry's best known writers and illustrators. stop by the Stark Raving Mad-house to take a peek.
- over at the newly added Origami Dreams, Camille Francisco has put up a pin-up which will eventually be seen at the pages of the next issue of Nautilus Comics'upcoming monthly comics, CAST. make haste if you wanna see! CAST's first issue, CAST: Pre-Production was first sold in the recently concluded Toycon and is now available in Comic Quest and other stores. the second issue of CAST is expected to be in stores this month.
- for those eager to get their hands on the latest issue of Culture Crash Comics, i just got news from Kat that the newest issue of Bluprint has a preview of the cover to CCCom # 15. I don't have a copy yet but according to Sir Dean, Bluprint has a feature on the Phillipine Comic Book Industry specifically on Carlo Vergara, Arnold Arre, Culture Crash Comics, and many more! Grab your copy now!
- Jonas Diego and Jac Lim's cartoon collaboration, Hot Copy, is currently being serialized in Seeker, the Philippine Collectible Hobbies and Hobby Gaming Magazine. to know what's hot about Hot Copy, take a peek here!
- for those still not in the know, Independent Comic Creators Point Zero, Myths and Legends and others are selling their titles at Sarabia Optical in UP Diliman Shopping Center, as well as in major stores like Comic Central Headquarters and Comic Quest. give the local indie scene the recognition and support that they deserve so check out their titles now!
and so that's it, hot news served fresh out of the box. be sure to watch this space for future comic related bloggables but until then, spread the love people!

huge updates
grraaaahhh!!!! update. :D
- Site addition: do you want to say "hi" but too lazy to send me an e-mail? want to get your comics site linked or a broken link to your site fixed? what about press releases and comic book news and events? then chatter away at the newly installed chatterbox from flooble below the "Blogs" section at the right hand side of this blog... why chatterbox and not tag-board? coz i find it more visually appealing. hehe.
- link organization: i designated a sub-section for the newly-updated webcomics links and also a separate section for the comic book stores. i am also contemplating on adding links to local mags catering to comics and hobbies like Seeker and Siklab but lemme put some thought into that first. small steps...
- thinking out loud: i have noticed that there are a lot of indie comic creators out there that instead of blogs, they have a deviantart accounts. which is pretty neat since most of them like the CCCom staff and Atomic Monkey use their DA's to post previews and pin-ups of their comics... so i'm thinking of putting DA accounts right there at the blogs section (since IMHO, a DA is a blog on steroids). but not yet though, gimme a week for research and expect it next sunday ok?
anyway, here are the newly added links:
Sites:
- added the link to Wilson Tortosa's The Grey Book.
Webcomics:
- woohoo! tons of pinoy webcomics links for ya... but then again, the two sets of links right there at the left hand of this blog were the works of Tobie Abad (Diliman, Nearly Forgotten...) and Jac Ting Lim (Jac Strips For You!!!, Drifter... ). i still have other webcomics to check out but until then, head over to Tobie's and Jac's blogs to access their handydandy links to other online webcomics.
Blogs:
- added link to Jonas Diego upon his request (hehe, i apologize for not adding it sooner) and also to Camille Francisco.
people, i would have to slow down the link updates for a while since i should be busy reviewing for the ChE board exams instead of doing this but i promise an update next Sunday (since i still have lots of links to post). don't fret though, i will still be posting comics-related bloggables whenever i chance upon them (coz this is a blog after all) so keep sending your requests, feedbacks and spread the love!

Welcome!
Welcome to the Pinoy Comic Book Portal!
I'm woofy, a pinoy comicbook enthusiast, and i created this little nook on the web to make it easy for me to keep track of the various websites relating to the Local Philippine Comic Book Industry.
I found out that if you Googled "pinoy comics" or some other keyword that has the same effect, you won't get spectacular results so hopefully with this little blog here, I hope I can contribute to the exposure of Local Pinoy Comics and at the same time, provide easy access for the new generation of Filipino comicbook readers who wants to get updated with all the news in the local industry.
If you're wondering why i used a blog rather than a proper website for the portal, it is because i am not a programmer and i'm an idiot in HTML. at least with Blogger, it would be a breeze to post updates, links and all that and the interface is idiot-friendly.
anyway, i hope you enjoy browsing through the portal. I would be posting up links to the websites that i religiously visit as well as the links to the blogs of Filipino comic creators known both locally and internationally. i would not be posting links to fan sites though, unless it's an uber-cool fansite. :D
'till the next update!
